Martin Luther High School was dedicated on September 15, 1968, with over 1,500 people attending the opening service. After breaking ground on April 30, 1967, using the same shovel that began construction for Milwaukee Lutheran High School a decade earlier, the building was completed ahead of schedule.
The school opened with 12 teachers and 85 students, serving freshmen and sophomores from Milwaukee’s south side. Named in honor of the 450th anniversary of the Reformation, Martin Luther High School flourished in its early years, reaching 500 students by its 10th anniversary thanks to generous support through scholarships, grants, and donations.
In 2018, Martin Luther celebrated 50 years of Christian education with a special worship service and alumni gathering. By August 2020, the school expanded further by opening a retail and student housing facility, enhancing its capacity to welcome international students. Today, Martin Luther serves nearly 700 students with the continued support of parents, alumni, and donors, looking forward to a bright future.
